The Dad In A Shed Fund exists to support people who rely on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) by providing free, accessible, and user-friendly apps. These tools are vital for individuals who cannot use speech to communicate, and we believe no one should be denied a voice because of financial barriers. Through the fund, we develop and maintain AAC apps at no cost to users, ensuring they remain up to date, compatible with devices, and responsive to feedback from the people who depend on them.
We use donations to cover development time, software updates, symbol licensing, testing, and technical support. The fund also helps us offer free resources and training materials to families, carers, and professionals. The fund has already enabled the creation of Articuloud—a flexible, cloud-based AAC app designed to support communication across devices. Articuloud allows users to build and store personalised phrases, use symbol or text-based inputs, and access their voice settings from any internet-connected device. It’s free to use, simple to get started with, and designed around real-world needs, offering a reliable communication solution without the usual cost barriers.
